Midwifery Care Management for Pregnant Women with Emesis Gravidarum Case Study at Fatimah Ali Clinic in 2024
Abstract
Abstrac
Background: Emesis gravidarum is a common condition experienced by pregnant women, particularly during the first trimester, characterized by nausea and vomiting caused by hormonal changes such as increased levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), estrogen, and progesterone. Although considered physiological, persistent symptoms can negatively impact maternal health, including decreased nutritional intake, dehydration, fatigue, and limitations in daily activities. Therefore, comprehensive midwifery care is essential to prevent complications and improve maternal well-being.Objective: This case study aims to describe the implementation of comprehensive midwifery care in a pregnant woman with emesis gravidarum and to evaluate the outcomes of the interventions provided. Methods: This study used a case study approach involving a pregnant woman (Mrs. R, 26 years old, G2P1A0) at 8 weeks and 6 days of gestation who presented with complaints of frequent nausea and vomiting. Data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, and observation. Midwifery care was provided comprehensively, including assessment, education, nutritional counseling, and follow-up monitoring. Results: After the interventions were implemented, the patient showed improved understanding of her condition and adherence to recommendations. The frequency of nausea and vomiting decreased gradually, nutritional intake improved, and the patient was able to perform daily activities more comfortably. No complications such as severe dehydration were observed during follow-up.Conclusion: Comprehensive midwifery care is effective in managing emesis gravidarum during early pregnancy. Early assessment, appropriate education, nutritional support, and continuous monitoring can reduce symptoms, prevent complications, and improve maternal health outcomes.
