EFFECTIVENESS OF BREAST CARE EDUCATION WITH BROCHURE MEDIA TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BREAST DAMS IN POST PARTUM MOTHERS AT DAMAIYANTI CLINIC, SUB-DISTRICT MEDAN DENAI NORTH SUMATRA PROVINCE IN 2024

ABSTRACT
Breast dam is one of the breastfeeding disorders that is often experienced by postpartum mothers and is at risk of causing serious complications such as mastitis and breast abscess if not treated immediately. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how effective the provision of education about breastcare through brochure media is in increasing the knowledge of postpartum mothers about breast dams. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two groups, namely the group given the intervention and the control group, with pre-test and post-test methods. The number of samples was 30 postpartum mothers who were selected using the total sampling technique, 15 people each in the treatment and control group. The instruments used were questionnaires that were distributed before and after education, then analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test statistical test. The results showed that before being educated, most respondents had a low level of knowledge (80%). However, after getting education through brochures, there was an increase in knowledge with 27% of respondents reaching a good level of knowledge, 37% adequate, and 37% still lacking. Statistical tests showed significant results (p = 0.000 < 0.05), which indicated a significant difference between before and after education. Thus, it can be concluded that breastcare education delivered using brochure media has proven to be effective in increasing postpartum mothers' understanding of breast dams.
